Craig du Plooy, M Com Information Systems (Forensics) (Honors)

UF Wildlife Forensic Sciences Faculty MemberAcademic Qualifications: Craig du Plooy has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) Information System Forensics degree and an Honors degree in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has over 15 years of experience in digital forensics, visual data analytics, information security, penetration testing and vulnerability assessments and has trained over 300 government and corporate computer and mobile phone forensic practitioners across Africa. He is a member of the Certified Fraud Examiners as well as the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators. Craig works in the Forensic Technology Solutions division at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cape Town, South Africa. Before joining PwC in July 2013, Craig specialized and still specializes in digital forensic services, products and training.

Craig and his colleagues worked on more than eight hundred SAPS registered cases and over a thousand corporate cases. During Craig’s career he has investigated databases such as DB2, Oracle, SQL, MySQL and SAP, interfaces such as ABAS and others, operating systems such as Linux, Windows, iOS and others.

On the proactive side, Craig and his team conducted several information security reviews, including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and mobile application security reviews at some of the biggest retailers, banks and government departments throughout Southern Africa and Africa.

Craig also teaches digital forensics and cyber security on a part time voluntary basis at the University of Cape Town.
